Height of Human Stupidity, Push/ Pull Door signs
Disclaimer: This article may seem utterly useless and you may feel that you have wasted 2 minutes of your life. Proceed with Caution!!!
When it comes to technology, humans have advanced a great deal. There is something new being invented somewhere every day. We’ve conquered many diseases, we’ve developed artificial intelligence, and the gadgets that we’ve developed know no bounds. But still, there are times when we feel uncertain about human smartness.
There are many many instances of human stupidity starting from wars to riots to discrimination. But I am not going to write about that. Those are too serious issues. There is one thing that hits me really hard every time I come across it, the Push/ Pull door signs.
Although we can see automatic doors in many places, a majority of the glass doors are still standard push and pull ones. When you visit a supermarket, or a bank or a big shop, you’ll see them adorned with glass doors and big fancy handles. And just below the handle you’ll see written in big ̶b̶o̶l̶d̶ letters, PUSH or PULL.
Most of the time, the door usually opens on one side and it remains so for all of its life. What I find pretty dumb is that the one side that you have to push every time to open has a handle similar to the other side. And then below the handle, you have to specifically instruct the person to not use the handle and pull the door. But just Push.. :P
When you don’t want anyone to push open the door, why put the handle in the first place? If you put the handle on just one side of the door, you save yourself a few bucks that you would otherwise spend on the handle and the push and pull radium stickers below it. If the door doesn’t have a handle, a person will be forced to push the damn door. No instructions needed. Voila!
Of course, the love for symmetry and aesthetics may justify the presence of that useless handle, I would still hate it for my life.
I wonder sometimes is it just me who gets bothered by these handles or there are people out there ready with a plier to pull that handle apart and rip off the sign below it?
